The Need

The cough got unbearable. Vani tried to reach for a glass of water but like always it was not on her bedstand. Reluctantly she got up. The curtains were still drawn yet rays had somehow made their way from the cracks and had kind of illuminated the room. The cough worsened and Vani knew that the relief would come after sipping some water. Even though she wasn’t in a state, still she went to the kitchen, heated a cup of water for herself and drank it to sooth her aching throat. Even though her growling stomach told her directly that she was famished, still she crawled back to the bed. But alas, sleep had eluded her eyes. She snuggled in her duvet. The rays had somehow fused with the darkness. The room was illuminated still it had traces of darkness that even the mighty Sun wasn’t able to take away. Vani smiled at the similarity. Just like her room, her life also bore the similarities. There was light but some corners were so dark and scary that nothing could penetrate. Being m...

The Other Woman

The bags were packed and she was waiting for her cab. She was finally going on a vacation. She knew she had to get out of the house, had to move on with her life but after her mother expired everyday became a struggle for her. So, when Pratiyush suggested that they should go out for the weekend she agreed readily. Yes, the vacation was for just a weekend. Due to many restrictions Zoya couldn't expect a full fledged vacation from Pratiyush. However, she knew that the two days would also be blissful and would provide her the much needed calm and peace.             Even though she wasn't feeling her best still she was excited. After her mother's death it was for the first time that she was going out of her home otherwise life had reduced to going to office and coming back. She felt alone all the time. Not like that earlier she wasn't alone but then she had the liberty of having h...

Prem Mein Tohre

Prem mein tohre aisi padi main purana zamana naya ho gaya.  I so love this melodious track. I stopped my car at the side because I knew while driving I would not be able to do justice to the song. Even though I have a diverse playlist ranging from soulful music to hard core to ghazals and what not, still there are times, especially when I am driving that I turn towards these soulful songs. I checked my watch. I was still ahead of time. I could easily lose myself in the soulful lyrics for few minutes. Still call it excitement or my obsession towards being punctual, I reached the venue way before time. It had started to drizzle so I had no other option but to wait in the restaurant. I hurriedly walked towards the restaurant in order to prevent myself from getting drenched. The restaurant had newly opened and from the reviews the food was to die for. I knew I was way before time, so I decided to treat myself with a fresh lime soda. My phone was continuously ringing and...

Panaah

Night had fallen. The Sun was about to say goodbye and Moon was all set to make its presence felt. I was tired. Though I still hadn’t reached my home but today it didn’t matter. I was ready to halt anywhere. I could hear chirping of birds. It felt like they were also done for the day and were leaving for their respective homes. Home… what a soothing word it is. But what is actually the definition of home? I looked around. Alone. As usual. However, it didn’t affect me anymore like it used to before.             My mind was telling me to keep on moving. It was sure, I would find my people. But my soul… my soul didn’t want to move a single step ahead. I found myself in front of him. Huge, scary, a bit worn and totally forlorn. I smiled. Finally I found someone who shared my traits. I was still contemplating whether to halt there or go in search for anything better when I heard clouds thunder...

Khumaar

As usual I got up way before the alarm went on. Out lately I had become a light sleeper and it was showing on my health too. The bed was empty and I couldn't help but feel a tinge of disappointment. However, I have learnt to live with it. Well, the truth is that no matter how much I try to convince myself that I'm okay with the fact of the bed being empty, I wasn't. Nevertheless, I didn't have enough energy in me to ponder over same things again. I went to the kitchen, made a cup of coffee for myself and went straight away to my studio. I'm a sculptor.             Inayat... a sculptor. Somebody who can give face to a lifeless idea, showcase deep emotions through her sculpture struggles to make sense of her own emotions. I looked at the sculpture again. This one has emotionally drained me out. One fine morning, I decided to build a sculpture of a girl sitting with lifeless eyes. Hailing from writing field, I have this unnatural w...
